Carter’s latest works mark an exciting new chapter in his artistic exploration, available as a limited edition of just 25. Each piece in this series is uniquely handcrafted—connected by theme yet distinct in form. Embracing a diverse range of materials, this series incorporates wood, paper, thread, metal, felt and various inks, showcasing the artist’s broad and inventive approach to his work.
Housed in a meticulously crafted book, each edition features six original ink drawings and a striking sculpture, highlighting Carter’s enduring dedication to sculpture, drawing, and design.
At the heart of this collection is the reimagining of the iconic, and substantial Eisenhower Dollar - a hefty silver coin minted in the U.S. between 1971 and 1978. Carter has transformed each coin through intricate carving and drawing, adding features like facial hair and wigs, and in some instances, completely erasing the presidential figure through hammering. This act of erasure creates a blank canvas, allowing Carter to craft a new figure—a theme that runs throughout his work. The reverse side is adorned with vibrant abstract painting, providing a striking contrast to the altered face of the coin. This manipulation of a familiar object reflects Carter’s deep engagement with drawing, portraiture, history, and the power of transformation.
The artist presents these works in the form of a book—an enduring vessel for knowledge, storytelling, memory, and artistic expression. Drawing from his extensive archive of imagery and creating new pieces specifically for this series, Carter seamlessly blends sculpture, drawing, and bookmaking.
This new collection captures the diverse influences that have shaped Carter’s creative journey over the decades, inviting collectors to experience the depth of his studio practice and own a piece of his evolving artistry.
